Board Meeting Minutes

Date: October 2nd, 2022

Board Members:  Steve Beckman, John Hays, Jeff Johnson, Matthew Kazmierski, Gail Lytle Lira, Pat Poli, Alice Schehr, Mark Warner, Steve Whelan

Call to order: Jeff Johnson called to order this meeting of the Brookfield Heritage Neighborhood Association Executive Committee at 4:03pm ET on October 2nd, 2022 at 131 Oakland Dr.

Roll Call:

  • Present: Steve Beckman, John Hays, Jeff Johnson, Matthew Kazmierski, Gail Lytle Lira, Mark Warner
  • Absent: Pat Poli, Alice Schehr, Steve Whelan
  • Quorum present: Yes

Approval of Past Minutes: The 2022-07-28 meeting minutes were reviewed, but a motion was not made to approve them.

Treasurer Updates:

  1. None, due to the absence of Alice Schehr

Old Business:

  1. Neighborhood covenant modification
    1. Steve Beckman has printed consent forms for owners that still have not signed one and placed them in envelopes. Needs to include return envelopes with prepaid stamps.
    2. Steve Beckman will check to see if any property owners that had previously submitted signed forms have changed and therefore new signatures are needed
    3. Steve Beckman will print the actual covenant language on an additional sheet of paper and include it in the envelopes delivered to each address
      1. Gail recommended placing the envelopes in or near front doors since they should not be placed in mailboxes
  2. Park upkeep on corner of Hagadorn and Grand River
    1. The landscaping of the park has recently improved, but the lower part of the “Welcome to East Lansing” sign should probably be repaired or replaced

New Business:

  1. The following quarterly meeting dates were agreed upon:
    1. Sunday, January 15th, 2023, at 4:00pm, location to be determined
    2. Sunday, April 16th, 2023, at 4:00pm, location to be determined
    3. Sunday, August 20th, 2023, at 4:00pm, location to be determined
    4. September meeting to plan for annual meeting, date and location to be determined
      1. Annual meeting scheduled for Sunday, September 10th, 2023, at 4:00pm on Oakland Dr.
  2. Appointment of board officers
    1. The following appointments were nominated and approved unanimously:
      1. President – Jeff Johnson
      2. Vice President – Matthew Kazmierski
      3. Secretary – Steve Beckman
      4. Treasurer – Alice Schehr
      5. Communications – Gail Lytle Lira
    2. Members at large – Matthew Kazmierski, Pat Poli, Steve Whelan, Mark Warner

Open Discussion:

  • Gail noted that the yard signs for announcing the annual meeting are being stored at her house
  • Gail asked where the microphone and speaker used at the annual meeting is being stored. Steve Beckman commented that Philip Eisenlohr purchased it in recent years and it was brought to this year’s meeting by Philip, who is no longer serving on the Board.
  • John noted that there should be an official location for the storage of BHNA documents. Steve suggested that Jeff mention it during the next meeting of city neighborhood associations.

Adjournment:

  • A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 4:33pm ET. The motion carried without objection.
