Dear Neighbors,
It’s time to start planning to line our streets with luminary bags! We will celebrate the Winter Solstice as a neighborhood again this year, on Sunday, December 21st. You may remember last year; Maplewood, Oakland and Roseland drives glowed with hundreds of luminaries. That glow came from 1,000 bags put out on December 21st. As you can imagine, this is a big task. If you can help in any way, we would appreciate it.
To make the luminaries, we have white paper bags, zip lock bags of sand, and candles. The tea light candle goes on top of the flattened, unopen bag of sand inside the white paper bag. We will start setting out bags around 4:00 pm, lighting candles around 5:00 pm and enjoying the glow with our neighborhood friends and families by 6:00 pm.
