Board Meeting Minutes
Date: April 13, 2025
Board Members: Steve Beckman (Secretary), Nella Davis-Ray (Communications), John Hays, Elizabeth Hoffman, Matthew Kazmierski (President), Denise Moore, Pat Poli (Communications), Alice Schehr (Treasurer), Mark Warner (Vice President)
Call to order: Matt Kazmierski called to order this meeting of the Brookfield Heritage Neighborhood Association Executive Committee at 4:37 pm ET on April 13th, 2025 in a meeting at 217 Oakland Dr.
Roll Call:
- Roll Call: Steve Beckman, Nella Davis-Ray, John Hays, Pat Poli, Matthew Kazmierski, Denise Moore, Mark Warner
- Absent: Elizabeth Hoffman, Alice Schehr
- Others in attendance: Officer Jack Saylor
- Quorum present: Yes
Approval of Past Minutes: A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the Board meeting held on January 19th, 2025 as presented. The motion carried without objection.
Treasurer Updates:
1. Alice provided a report that stated the association’s current account balance is $1,233.51, down $1,135.75 after purchasing four trees
Old Business:
1. BHNA Directory
a. Nella updated the neighborhood directory with the latest changes
2. BHNA website
a. Emails will now be automatically sent to people on the neighborhood distribution list when new posts are published to the website
3. Social Committee updates
a. Garden Walk
i. Chelsea Beckman hosted a meeting with Alice, Nella, and Sharon Bruner. Nine neighbors have signed up to participate in the event on Saturday, June 16th.
ii. Social Committee members will be asked to help provide guidance at each garden.
iii. The Greater Lansing Garden Club will share information about the event with their members. The Meridian and Williamston Garden Clubs will also be contacted.
iv. Donations will be requested for the BHNA account that contributes to street tree replacements
4. Safety update
a. East Lansing Police Officer Jack Saylor introduced himself as the neighborhood’s new designated officer
b. Officer Saylor did not have any recent events in the neighborhood to report
c. Board members expressed concern about a family on Maplewood that has a teenage boy that has been recently lighting fires in their backyard. Officer Saylor said he would raise awareness within the police department.
d. There have been fewer events related to patrons of local bars and restaurants compared to last year
e. Weapon-related incidents in the city have been on the decline
